Are you a musician looking for performance opportunities? Interested in chamber music? Audition for the Macaulay Chamber Music Society! 

Please bring your instrument of choice and a short piece or excerpt (1-4 minutes) that you feel best represents your skill level. We will place you in groups based on your performance.

What is Macaulay Chamber?: Macaulay Chamber Music Society (also known as Macaulay Chamber Ensemble, and abbreviated as MCMS, MCS, or MCE) is a club based at Macaulay Honors College that contains multiple groups of members across all of CUNY’s campuses that meet to play chamber music together. Members also attend concerts once a month, and we have partnered with Macaulay and the New York Philharmonic to provide some tickets for events at Lincoln Center for free! Occasionally, groups also utilize the musical skills they develop by playing in nursing homes. 

What is required to be part of the club?: Because we are a performing arts club with the purpose of facilitating chamber music groups, a certain level of musical competency is required. This includes being able to play an instrument at a level on par with other members of a group.

What kind of music do we play?: Most of our members play classical, though some also play jazz, pop, and/or rock. You will be placed in a group based on your interests and skill level.

When/where do I meet with my group?: You decide this along with the other members in your group, though you should aim to meet at least once a month. You may rehearse in the Macaulay Building by filling out a form and we will reserve space on your behalf. Otherwise, meeting at any CUNY practice facility should be adequate.
