Macaulay Service Initiative and Macaulay Peace Action are proud to bring to you...a 5-workshop series event in collaboration with Legal Momentum’s Rights Now! program.

Legal Momentum is the oldest legal advocacy group for women in the United States. One of the many education programs that Legal Momentum offers is the Rights Now! Peer Educator program. The Rights Now! curriculum is comprised of 5 independent workshops that discuss some of the most important social issues faced today. The workshops are interactive and aim to empower and educate youth groups, particularly young women of color, on how to respond to sexual abuse, violence, and gender discrimination.

After completion of ALL 5 workshops, participants are eligible to receive a Certification of Completion signed by the Program Manager and CEO of Legal Momentum. Add this certificate to your professional CV and/or résumé, and show your future employees that you have a deeper understanding of the legal steps one should take when encountered by the social issues that affect us all.

Workshop 2: Sex & Gender-Based Discrimination

Workshop 2 explores the topic of gender and its construction in opposition to sex. We delve into the ways in which certain stereotypes have been assigned to the gender binary in order to shape gender roles and gender minorities. The activities look at the impact of gender stereotypes in our society and the evolution of media representation in regard to race, gender, and sexuality. This workshop serves as the basis for deeper discussions surrounding gender-based discrimination in different settings and violence against women and LGBTQ+ peoples.
