Details
The two-hour program will be led by Dr. Karen Shelby, Associate Professor of Art History at Baruch College, and Stamatina Gregory, Head Curator/Director of Exhibitions and Collections for the museum, and will include:
A history of the founding of the museum and its site-specificity within the context of the AIDS pandemic
The collection and archival mission of the museum
A short summary of past exhibitions and how they fit within the framework of the mission
An introduction to Candy Darling within the history of New York City
A walk-through of the current exhibition “I’m a thousand different people – Every One is Real” to get participants engaged with the art and prep for a later discussion
Regather to discuss reactions to the exhibit
A lecture of the exhibitions that are mounted on the exterior of the museum, which concludes the program as it began – with an emphasis on community and site specificity as it relates, in the 21st century, to issues of visibility within the LGTBQIA+ community
Macaulay will provide 20 tickets to the museum that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but the visit and the lecture/discussion will be open to all CUNY students.
